Feet. Most would agree that they are not particularly attractive. Some are bigger than others. Many of us pay little attention to our own until it is time to dress them up in the latest fashions, warm them with thick socks or to cover them with appropriate shoes for the job. That specific need may be work related, for play or to put-in that five mile run before work. We do not seem to pay much further attention to them unless a problem develops.
Our feet are indeed a marvel of Devine engineering. There is considerable evidence of careful and purposeful design. Hundreds of specially-designed bones, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels complete their construction. Why five toes? Why an arch? Why a hard heel? The answers are actually quite simple. Are feet are designed and built in this manner so that we can walk upright and maintain our balance!
Several years ago, I broke my big toe on my right foot precisely at the point where it joins the remainder of my foot. Outside of the obvious pain, it affected my walking, standing, balance and athletics. Did you know that the big toe allows you to stay balanced from side-to-side? The various components in our feet are working constantly, dynamically keeping us balanced and moving. They absorb and dissepate tremendous shock forces that would otherwise impact our much more fragile knees, hips and spine. Feet are indeed a wonder to behold.
Our feet are obviously quite important to our everyday activities. Feet, however, are simply a single component among the many that make up our body. There are no body parts without important functions. Our brain is even more complex and not only subject to physical difficulties, but our own "stinkin-thinkin," as Zig Ziglar is fond of saying.
Remember to feed your mind nutritious brain-food and proper nutrients. Exercise your brain daily with brain-games and other thinking activities. Read something inspirational for thirty minutes each day. Listen to positive, uplifting music. Keep vigilant over what you let the television feed you. Remember, we are each a product of the five most prolific influences around us, good or bad. Be mindful of what you let in and what you allow to define you.
The loss of a big toe or the corruption of our integrity leads to the same end...our fall.
